Capt. Monroe Jefferson Potts, of Harrisburg, Saline County, was born in White County, Illinois, March 23, 1841. He is the son of Hosea and Charlotte Potts, was raised on a farm and received a limited education. Was married March 27, 1867, to Miss Eliza Pine, of Carbondale, Illinois, and has four children, viz.: Harry, Earl, May, Daisy. He has followed the avocation of druggist for several years, up to the present time, and has an extensive business. He entered the army as private in September, 1861, and was promoted through the various grades to Adjutant of the regiment, and Captain in 1863, 1864 and 1865 respectively. He was a good soldier, and is an influential citizen.
